Cinder

Linh Cinder, a cyborg, is New Beijing’s best mechanic. When the future emperor asks for her help, it seems to start a cataclysmic series of events that upends her life. Based on the story of Cinderella, ‘Cinder,’ as she’s known, finds herself dealing with more than just her wicked stepmother. A plague ravages the planet, and she finds herself in the crosshairs of the scientists searching for a cure. Not to mention, the ruthless leader of the Lunar people is threatening war. Meanwhile, the handsome prince, Kai, seems to be mysteriously drawn to her. Despite her attempts to dissuade him, he invites her to the ball, and even though she swears never to attend, she finds herself racing to get there.

Marissa Meyer manages to spin a web of fable and sci-fi in the first book of the Lunar Chronicles. The premise is unique despite knowing it is based off another story. The characters are very loveable, and you can almost imagine them as your friends. As equal are the enemies, who are dark, dangerous, and leave you quaking in your boots. If you like robots and magic, this is the perfect book for you.
