Murder Once Removed

A Murder Once Removed pulled me in with the cute cat on the cover. The novel follows genealogist, Lucy Lancaster, as she troupes the streets of Austin with her best buddies. At the behest of a wealthy client, Lucy manages to uncover a photo of a murder which took place in 1849. This find soon leads her down a path of peril and deception. She enlists all of her close connections when she discovers a dear friend is murdered. Her attempts at solving the crime only cause more problems, especially for the handsome FBI officer, Ben Turner. Twists and turns amass in this book and you are never really sure where the next clue will come from.
S.C. Perkins willed this first book in a series to life with very high detail writing. There isn’t a single moment where your imagination will need to fill in the blanks. Although, Lucy’s dialogue seems somewhat overdone and the characters are hard to love. Despite the few setbacks of the writing, the plot is unique. I certainly learned a few terms in the geological field and I must thank S.C. for explaining so perfectly what ‘once removed’ means. Overall, not a bad read if you like cozy mysteries.
