The Simple Art of Flying

The Simple Art of Flying follows a pair of birds through their journey of exploration, trials, and triumphs. Alastair and Aggie were born in a dark room at the back of a pet store, in the hope that the owner would make a great profit from each of them. Little did they know that a young boy named Fritz would change the course of their lives. While Alastair struggles to find his way, his sister blossoms among the animals surrounding them and eventually finds her forever home. With some added loveable characters, the story unfolds into the unexpected and reminds you that family is everything.
Cory Leonardo provides an interesting perspective on the life of two African grey parrots. The story includes letters as well as some poetry to help move the narrative forward. As a reader, you find an attachment to not only the people, but the animals as well. Despite the stress that Alastair seems to feel throughout the novel, one can’t help but root for him to find his palm tree. A fast read, for fans of The One and Only Ivan, that will pull at your heartstrings.
