The Women

Frankie is a debutante in a world of privilege. Tired of feeling helpless, she impulsively signs up for Army service after completing her nursing degree. Her naivety and tenacity manage to help her to persist during her time in Vietnam. The atrocities of war mount and she is able to depend on her relationships with the women surrounding her to become the adult she is meant to be. Even as she faces the hard truths of returning home, she is able to rely on the bonds created in the time of war.

Kristen Hannah weaves an intricate tale of dark truths and friendship among true historical data that resonates with the reader. While the story is somewhat predictable and repetitive, it doesn’t take away from the complex writing and interesting take on the Vietnam War. If you are a fan of long prose and historical drama, this is the book for you.
