Septimus Heap,
Book One: Magyk

Wizards and witches abound in this truly unique tale of the Heap family. The family has seven children, but alas, the seventh son is claimed to be dead the day he was born. At the same time, Silas Heap (father of the large brood) finds a newborn girl in the wintery woods. He picks her up and claims her as his own, only to find out later that she is the child of the murdered queen. The family must band together with friends and relatives to defeat a great darkness that has overtaken the castle. Twists, turns, and interesting characters make this a quick read.
Angie Sage is a natural storyteller, definitely tying up any loose ends. The only complaint I could find with the book is the use of so many names that begin with same letter. Sure, a few don’t seem too bad, but when you have Silus, Simon, Sally, Sarah, etc. . . . You get my point. If you get distracted easily or have children in your home, take those extra seconds to focus, because it will be worth it. A truly fun book where you will enjoy fighting evil with those on the side of good magic.
